Rodney Bell, a Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) architecture graduate who earned his degree before SPSU consolidated with Kennesaw State University (KSU) in 2015, played a pivotal role in designing 1020 Spring Street, a 25-story office tower in Midtown Atlanta.
“This was a unique opportunity for me, personally, to be able to design a building in both my home state and the city where I lived and studied during my undergraduate years,” said Bell, who served as senior associate principal for New York architectural firm KPF and senior designer on the project. “The project itself is an amenity-focused office tower located in the heart of Midtown at a nexus of commerce, research, academia, and infrastructure.”
Bell’s work on 1020 Spring Street serves as inspiration for current Kennesaw State architecture students. Kathryn Bedette, associate dean of the College of Architecture and Construction Management, noted, “Rodney’s work on 1020 Spring Street is something our students can see and aspire to every time they drive through Midtown. It’s a prominent reminder of the impact their work can makeโnot just on the Atlanta skylineโbut also in our communities and in the interactions and experiences of everyone who lives, works, visits, or just strolls by a project they’ve designed.”
