A 16-storey hotel designed by BVN has been approved for development in Sydney’s Haymarket, following the submission of a revised application.
The newly approved proposal for the 136 Hay Street site expands on an earlier approved application from 2017 that was modified and resubmitted to the City of Sydney in 2023.
The $104-million high-rise will accommodate 318 hotel suites, retail tenancies, a sky lobby, a supermarket and basement car parking.
The building will take shape as a sloped tower atop a masonry podium with a terrace creating a gap between. A glass and brick awning that connects the tower and podium also serves to shelter the terrace from weather conditions.
The podium echoes the materiality of the adjacent, heritage-listed Manning Building, while the tower adopts a contrasting smooth, glass finish. The tower’s inclining facade will be interfaced with stainless steel cables to support the growth of climbing greenery.
Early works have already been completed on the site. The project timeline and estimated completion date have not yet been released.
