The London Design Festival has unveiled its thought leadership program, the Global Design Forum, dedicated to celebrating “design and the minds shaping its future.”
Running from September 14 to 20 at the V&A, this year’s forum will feature a series of talks tackling key challenges faced by designers. Topics will include sustainability, technology, urban development, and repair.
The event will bring together over 60 speakers from around the globe, offering insights into how design can become more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable to drive meaningful change.
The four-day program will explore daily themes such as Please Design Responsibly, The Healthy City, Resilience and Repair, and More Than Human. The forum is supported by partners including Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Velux, and the Tรผrkiye Design Council.
Kicking off on Saturday, September 14, the first theme, Please Design Responsibly, will feature discussions on Material Progress: Pushing the Boundaries of Luxury Design, Redefining the Role of the Designer, and Designing a Regenerative Society.
Among the speakers for the day’s events are Jeremy Lindley, Diageo’s global design director; Jennifer English, Johnnie Walker’s global brand director; and Nic Monisse, design editor at Monocle. They will delve into innovation in luxury design in their talk, titled Material Progress: Pushing the Boundaries of Luxury Design.
A panel discussion led by writer and curator Priya Khanchandani will critically assess the evolving role of the designer. Participants include Shawn Adams, co-founder of POoR Collective, and artist Liang-Jung Chen.
Continuing on Sunday, September 15, the theme More Than Human will feature discussions on how designers are pushing boundaries in music, fashion, film, design, and technology. Lighting designer Tobias Rylander will join Institute of Digital Fashion co-founder Leanne Elliott Young, H+ founder Hannah Marshall, and designer Melek Zeynep Bulut in exploring how designers are creating impactful and innovative experiences.
