London-based David Collins Studio is marking a major milestone – 40 years of creating iconic, timeless interiors. Founded by the late David Collins, the studio has established itself as a leader in luxury design, with a portfolio that includes high-end hotels, restaurants, and private homes.
Associates Iain Watson, Simon Rawlings, and Lewis Taylor reflect on the studio’s journey, from its early days designing restaurants like La Tante Claire to its current status as a global design authority.
The studio’s approach is centered around creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. As Simon Rawlings, Chief Creative Officer, notes, “It’s about understanding who will use and enjoy the space.”
Recent projects include the redesign of Gleneagles and the launch of Cunard’s Queen Anne, the studio’s first foray into cruise ship design. Lewis Taylor, Design Director, describes the Queen Anne project as “a challenge” due to the unique requirements of designing a ship, but ultimately “worth it” given the successful outcome.
As David Collins Studio looks to the future, it remains committed to its founding principles of creativity, quality, and attention to detail. With a legacy that spans four decades, the studio continues to inspire and influence the world of luxury design.
