Studio Saransh has designed its new workspace, Oasis, in the suburbs of Ahmedabad, India. The 1,170-square-metre studio marks a departure from the “chaos of the city” and features five blocks surrounding a central sunken courtyard.
The blocks are connected by open walkways, encouraging employees to step outdoors and fostering chance encounters. The main studio has a double-height structure with a north light roof, while a mezzanine allows for future expansion. The courtyard features large steps, a lily pond, and landscaping that creates an intimate atmosphere.
“The planning fosters collaboration, accommodates diverse work preferences, and encourages a strong connection with the environment,” Malay Doshi, Studio Saransh director.
The studio’s design combines locally sourced black basalt with steel, using vernacular principles of western Indian architecture to create a contemporary form. The campus has received a positive response from staff and clients, feeling more like a retreat than a conventional office.
