Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has revealed its design for The Grove, a new seafront neighborhood and marina in Qetaifan Island North, Qatar. The development features 293 apartments with expansive views of Qetaifan Bay and the Lusail skyline, centered around a waterfront promenade. The promenade will host neighborhood restaurants, cafes, local stores, and boutiques, while residents can enjoy outdoor dining and recreation year-round thanks to passive design techniques and cutting-edge cooling technologies.
The Grove prioritizes sustainability, incorporating shading, low-carbon concrete, and on-site renewables to minimize consumption. Energy-efficient systems, including geothermal heat pumps and photovoltaic panels, will supplement renewable energy. Rainwater harvesting and micro-irrigation systems will reduce water demand. “The Grove will seamlessly combine living, leisure, and recreational spaces within the most integrated, sustainable community,” said Gianluca Racana, Director at ZHA. “This mixed-use development looks to the future with a unique design incorporating advanced technologies.”
The development’s façades are designed to meet Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) targets, with vertical and horizontal “scoops” producing a dynamic visual rhythm. Large outdoor living areas and stepped balconies provide residents with privacy and views of the waterfront. “Innovation has always been at the heart of Zaha Hadid Architects’ approach to design,” said Juan Ignacio Aranguren, Associate Director. “The Grove exemplifies how architecture can catalyze vibrant, resilient communities.” The project aims to set a new standard for sustainable design in Qatar.
