SĀR Studio, an Indian furniture brand, has launched SĀR Residence, a multi-use concept space that serves as an extension of the brand. This new flagship space, designed by local architect Girish Doshi, aims to put Pune on the map as a design destination.
Located on the outskirts of Pune, SĀR Residence is a cluster of earth-toned volumes surrounding a central courtyard. The compound has been built into the side of a hill, with symmetrical granite risers that allow visitors to enter from above and descend into the compound.
SĀR Studio’s founder, Nikita Bhate, aims to create a space that showcases Indian culture and design. The residency program will host designers from across the globe, allowing them to experience the local culture and collaborate on new furniture designs.
“We want to be able to host people,” says Bhate. “Because when you’re hosted, you really experience the culture.”
SĀR Studio debuted two new collections during the inauguration of SĀR Residence. The “Rise” collection, designed collaboratively between Bhate and creative advisor Pascal Hien, features furniture that caters to Indian habits of living and hosting. The “Paffe” collection, designed by Giorgio Gasco, has been updated with new plush cushions and a higher seat, making it more ergonomic for the older generation.
SĀR Residence will operate as a community hub, hosting film nights, concerts, and workshops for designers and creatives in Pune. The space is set to start accepting residents in spring 2025.
