Zaha Hadid Architects completed the transformation of a historic palazzo in Rome into the luxury Hotel Romeo recently. The hotel, located on Via Ripetta, features 74 rooms and suites, each with a unique design that blends heritage with parametric innovation.
The hotel’s interior design is characterized by sinuous surfaces, sculptural columns, and curvilinear furnishings. The lobby features a rotating statue of Livia Drusilla, while the restaurant, led by three-Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse, is defined by treelike wood structures. The hotel’s spa and gym feature dramatic sculptural millwork.
The project was led by Zaha Hadid, who died in 2016. The studio’s design approach was influenced by the constraints of working within a historic building, leading to the concept of a “second skin” layered over the original structure.
