The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Indiana has announced the winners of the 2024 Northern Indiana Design Awards, recognizing four outstanding projects by northern Indiana architects. The awards celebrate excellence in design, highlighting the creative and thoughtful approach of AIA Indiana members.
“It’s clear that our talented members are positively changing the built environment for their clients and for the communities they serve,” said Jason Shelley, Executive Director, AIA Indiana. “The creative and thoughtful approach they apply to their work takes the needs of their clients into consideration, while incorporating the unique elements of the spaces and places around these structures.”
The award recipients were selected from 15 submissions by a jury from the AIA Iowa Chapter. The winning projects include:
The Greensburg Fire Station No.1, designed by DLZ Indiana LLC, received the Honor Award for New Construction. This $9.2 million project prioritizes firefighter safety and facility operations.
The Elkhart General Hospital 6th Floor Flexible Unit, designed by Creative Design Solutions, Inc., received the Citation Award for Preservation/Adaptive Reuse/Renovation. This project transformed a medical-surgical unit into a flexible and future-ready facility.
The St. Joseph County Public Library Addition and Renovation, designed by Arkos Design and Robert A.M. Stern Architects, LLP, received the Merit Award for Preservation/Adaptive Reuse/Renovation. This 85,000 square foot renovation modernized the existing space, enhancing the patron experience.
The Social Engagement Center, designed by DLZ Indiana LLC, received the Citation Award for Interior Architecture. This project created a new employee experience at DLZ’s South Bend headquarters, fostering engagement, camaraderie, and team building.
