CNN reports that, aiming to add yet another superlative to Dubai’s impressive list, urban design firm URB is set on creating the world’s “greenest” highway. URB has unveiled conceptual designs for a 64-kilometer stretch that would revamp Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, a major traffic artery, into a “Green Spine” featuring autonomous, solar-powered trams and advanced smart traffic management systems.
Baharash Bagherian, urban planner and founder of URB, asserts that the “first-of-its-kind project” would enhance the city’s design, making it more “human-centric.”
“Dubai is rapidly expanding, with its population expected to nearly double to 8 million by 2040,” said Bagherian. “This growth necessitates creativity and innovation to address both current and future challenges.”
“We must view mobility as more than just the movement of people,” he added.
