LPA Design Studios has been named the winner of the 2025 AIA Architecture Firm Award by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This prestigious award recognizes the firm’s commitment to sustainable design, innovative approach, and dedication to creating spaces that inspire and uplift communities.
Founded in 1965 by Leason Pomeroy in Southern California, LPA Design Studios has grown into a national firm with over 400 architects working on projects for higher education, K-12, and municipal and state government clients. The firm’s influence on architecture in the region has been significant, with a philosophy that consistently exhibits sustainability credentials while creating opportunities for underrepresented voices to enter the professional community.
The AIA Architecture Firm Award jury praised LPA Design Studios for its “thought leadership” in design and education, citing projects such as the Environmental Nature Center and Preschool, the first Living Building Challenge Petal Certified building in the region. The jury noted that “research and data-driven design are at the core of LPA’s success” and that the firm has helped to “reshape architectural education by promoting integrated design and sustainability.”
LPA Design Studios’ commitment to sustainability is evident in its in-house Sustainability + Applied Research (S+AR) team, which helps clients deliver on benchmarks while creating spaces that inspire and uplift communities. The firm’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of sustainable design and fostering a more equitable and resilient built environment has earned it numerous AIA honors, including the COTE Top Ten Plus Award.
The AIA noted that LPA Design Studios “continues to set the standard for the architecture profession” by demonstrating that high-performance, carbon-neutral buildings are achievable for every client, budget, and scale.
