The 12th European Prize for Urban Public Space has recognized two outstanding projects: “Park at the Warsaw Uprising Mound” in Poland and “Beach Improvement and Redevelopment of the Harbour Edge” in Porto do Son, Spain. The Warsaw park, designed by topoScape and Archigrest, won the General Category for its thoughtful integration of history and materiality. The project transformed a WWII rubble mound into a vibrant public space.
The Porto do Son beach redevelopment, designed by CREUSeCARRASCO and RVR Arquitectos, won the Seafront Category. The jury praised its balance of renaturalization and community engagement, preserving the protective wall while introducing new facilities. This approach addresses critical issues like ecological integrity, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and climate change.
The European Prize for Urban Public Space, organized by the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), received 297 submissions from 35 European countries.
