Bockrath Flooring & Rugs, a Dayton-area business, has partnered with We Care Arts to transform a local artist’s design into a rug. Rachel K., the winner of this year’s rug design challenge, created a unique piece featuring an 8-ball used in pool.
We Care Arts, a nonprofit organization, focuses on the healing power of art and community, supporting adults with developmental disabilities, addiction, and mental health issues. Rachel, an artist at We Care Arts, expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I never thought I would get this kind of recognition for my art.”
Bockrath Flooring & Rugs received over 140 submissions for the annual rug design challenge. The top four designs were posted on social media, and Rachel’s design was chosen as the winner. A four-foot version of the rug was presented to Rachel, and a six-foot version will be auctioned at We Care Arts’ Black & White Gala on February 28.
According to Erin Bockrath, co-owner of Bockrath Flooring & Rugs, “We wanted to do something with the arts because we feel like our rugs kind of represent art for the floor.” This is the seventh year of the rug challenge, and all proceeds from the auction will go directly to We Care Arts.
