BIG has designed its new headquarters, BIG HQ, on Copenhagen’s harbor in Denmark. The 4,488-square-meter building features a unique, seven-story design centered around a single column and a sprawling staircase. Completed in spring 2024, BIG HQ showcases the studio’s integrated LEAPP approach.
The building incorporates geothermal and solar energy systems, achieving 60% renewable energy reliance. Its innovative Uni-Green concrete structure reduces CO2 emissions by 25%. Founder Bjarke Ingels emphasized BIG’s interdisciplinary approach, stating, “Every single aspect of LEAPP has been involved in our HQ… pushing the limits of concrete’s potential.”
BIG Landscape transformed the surrounding area into a 1,500-square-meter public park. Native trees and plants provide shelter and promote biodiversity. Partner Giulia Frittoli noted, “We envisioned a place where people can relax, play, and connect with nature… an homage to both the past and future.” The park and headquarters exemplify BIG’s commitment to sustainable design.
