Benoy has officially announced its design proposal for the L CITY commercial project, providing comprehensive interior design services. Strategically located in the heart of Zhangjiang Science City, the L CITY project is set to open in the second half of 2025.
The project introduces a diverse mix of commercial spaces, including shopping malls, neighbourhood hubs, standalone commercial units, and community spaces, creating a dynamic centre for smart living and innovation. Spanning a total floor area of 166,000 square metres, L CITY boasts excellent accessibility with convenient transport links.
The design incorporates multi-level connections, integrating the commercial plots seamlessly with the surrounding environment. A three-dimensional pedestrian network links Zhonghuan Wetland Park to the south with Chuanyang River Waterfront Park to the north, creating a welcoming and vibrant urban recreational space.
Reflecting Zhangjiang’s reputation as a hub of scientific and technological innovation, L CITY’s design offers a fully immersive sensory experience. The faรงade combines glass curtain walls with iridescent panels inspired by traditional Chinese dragon scales.
“We reimagined Zhangjiang’s traditional ‘technological hub’ identity, shifting away from its perception as a prosperous yet impersonal endpoint of daily commutes,” said the design team at Benoy. “This project introduces more inviting and habitable features to transform Zhangjiang into a dynamic and engaging space.”
The project incorporates elements of art, innovation, community, fun, colour, and nature into various distinct areas, interspersed with a series of unique spaces and activity areas.
Inspired by the solar system, the five plots are named after Saturn, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury, embodying Zhangjiang’s spirit of exploration and cultural romanticism.
