The University of Southampton has appointed BDP (Building Design Partnership) to lead the design of its new campus in Delhi. The state-of-the-art campus in Gurugram will provide a world-class learning environment, integrating UK and Indian academic excellence.
BDP’s design transforms an existing office building into a flexible, cutting-edge facility that encourages collaboration and idea exchange. The design prioritizes flexibility, collaboration, and community creation, facilitating interactions between students, academics, and industry leaders.
The campus features innovative learning environments, including versatile teaching spaces, lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and collaborative workspaces. Adaptability and efficiency are key, with multi-purpose areas transitioning seamlessly between formal teaching, independent learning, and research.
The University of Southampton is the first international university to establish a comprehensive campus under India’s National Education Policy guidelines. The campus design incorporates dedicated research and enterprise space, enabling collaboration between academia, industry, and government.
Sue Emms, BDP’s global head of education, commented, “This project is a landmark moment for higher education in India and the UK. The design embodies collaboration, innovation, and cultural exchange, creating an environment where students can excel academically while engaging with industry and research partners.”
The campus is designed to establish a strong sense of place, honoring the University of Southampton’s heritage while celebrating India’s rich cultural identity. The campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Computer Science, Business, Economics, and Law, and is due to open in Autumn 2025.
