The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has recently sought public input on a proposed 250-meter sky deck at Hemmigepura, one of several potential sites identified for this ambitious project. With an estimated construction cost of Rs 500 crore, the sky deck is part of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumarโs vision for enhancing Bengaluru.
This sky deck aims to provide a unique panoramic view of the city while creating job opportunities and boosting economic growth. It will feature amenities such as food courts and play areas. Other potential sites considered by the BBMP include NGEF in Benniganahalli, Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd in Yeshwanthapura, Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation in Whitefield, and GKVK in Jakkuru. However, many of these locations are near sensitive zones like Kempegowda International Airport, Yelahanka Defence Airport, and HAL Defence Airport, which impose height restrictions according to the Colour Coded Zoning Map (CCZM).
As a result, the BBMP is focusing on areas in the west and southwest of Bengaluru for the sky deck. Alternative sites under consideration include Hemmigepura near NICE Clover Leaf, Bangalore Universityโs Jnanabharati campus, and Kommaghatta near NICE Road. Hemmigepura is particularly favored due to its excellent connectivity to major routes such as Tumkur, Kanakapura, Mysuru, and Hosur via NICE Road, which could help reduce traffic disruptions during construction. Additionally, its proximity to Turahalli forest offers visitors scenic natural views.
BBMP is inviting residents, community groups, and stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed location, specifically whether Hemmigepura is suitable or if there are other preferred sites in the cityโs west or southwest. Submissions can be sent via email to bbmpeepc3@gmail.com or delivered in person to the BBMP head office at N R Square, Bengaluru. The feedback period is open for the next seven days.
In September, Shivakumar also visited a sky deck in New York during his personal visit to the US. Shivakumar inspected the Skydeck โThe Edgeโ and its architecture, design, and other structural aspects, hinting at a similar replication in Bengaluru.
