Fairmont Jaipur is one the luxurious heritage-based properties under the parent group Triton Hotels and Resorts. Jui Sharma, Executive Director, Triton Hotels and Resorts, who has been overseeing the development of interiors in Fairmont Jaipur, shares her views on how they were created with high level of diligence and composure. In an interview with Tejaswini Paranjape, she explains how their dedication and investment in putting together ‘visually compelling timeless interiors’ paid off.
1.What is the role ofย the ‘interiors’ in increasing the brand visibility of Fairmont Jaipur?
The interiors played a crucial role in increasing the brand visibility of Fairmont Jaipur by creating distinctive spaces that reflect the brand’s values and aspirations. For instance, at Fairmont Jaipur, the fusion of Rajput & Mughal influences in the interior design showcases our commitment to heritage and luxury. The grand entrance through massive wooden doors, the intricate Thekri glass work in the Durbar Hall help us relive the grandeur of the royal Rajput kings and queens of Rajasthan. The beautifully frescoed ceilings all contribute to giving life to the dying art of wall art and a unique and memorable visual identity. These elements not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also position our properties as ventures which promote the work of local artisans and cultural richness of India. The opulent world the guests are introduced to gives them a peek into the long forgotten past of the royal life and richness enjoyed in the region.
2.What is the role of interiors in increasing the footfalls?
Interiors play a significant role in increasing footfalls by creating visually appealing spaces that attract guests and encourage exploration. At Fairmont Jaipur, the meticulously designed interiors, from the Charbagh courtyard with its four gardens and central fountain to the opulent rooms adorned with exquisite craftsmanship and luxurious furnishings, create an inviting ambiance. The reflective pool, inspired by the ancient game of Chaupar, the spacious lobby with hand-painted murals and Frescoes, the intimate settings of Zarin, our Pan Asian restaurant, and Aza, the colonial library bar, which entice visitors to spend more time exploring and enjoying the property. These thoughtfully crafted environments not only attract new visitors but also encourage repeat visits, as guests are eager to experience the unparalleled blend of history and luxury.
3.How crucial are the interiors in elevating the guest experience at the hotels?
The interiors are paramount in elevating the guest experience at our hotels as it not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also meets guests’ needs and emotional expectations, leading to higher satisfaction. At Fairmont Jaipur, every design element, from the intricate Thekri glass work in the Durbar Hall to the Mughal-inspired geometric patterns in the rooms, contributes to a memorable stay. Authentic historical features, such as the 400-year-old intricately carved door from an old palace of Jodhpur and traditional tadelakt stucco on the walls, create an atmosphere of grandeur reminiscent of the past. Warm lighting, opulent furnishings, and seamlessly integrated avant-garde technology ensure guests are enveloped in luxury and comfort.
4.What is customers’ feedback/response on the interiors?
Customers’ feedback on the interiors has been overwhelmingly positive. Guests at Fairmont Jaipur often express their admiration for the intricate craftsmanship, the seamless blend of traditional and modern aesthetics, and the overall ambiance that enhances their stay. They appreciate the thoughtful design elements, such as the parrot motifs that symbolize historical royal traditions, the plush furnishings, and the luxurious bathing areas with Tadelak warm walls. Many guests have shared their appreciation for unique experiences that we offer, such as afternoon tea in Anjum with its star-shaped floor and breathtaking views, or the serene atmosphere of the Zenana spa. This positive feedback validates our efforts and reinforces our commitment to creating exceptional hospitality experiences through thoughtful and immersive interior design. Each guest leaves Fairmont Jaipur feeling like loyalty as the hotel leaves no stone unturned in making their stay opulent and memorable.
5.Have you collaborated with anyone (local community, other businesses, artists, etc.) for business development?
Yes, we have actively collaborated with local communities, artisans, and businesses to promote sustainable tourism and economic development. For example, at Fairmont Jaipur, we showcase indigenous craftsmanship and support local initiatives, enriching the guest experience while contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region. We source materials locally, such as the traditional block printing used in the shamiana at Zoya, and engage local artists to create unique decorative elements. All the lights have been crafted by local artisans from Jaipur. These collaborations not only enhance the authenticity and cultural significance of our interiors but also foster a sense of community and support for local artisans and businesses. There are magnificent hand-knotted carpets at Fairmont Jaipur which have been sourced from Uttar Pradesh. Even the beautifully crafted soap dishes, tissue boxes, and flower vases present at the property are from the talented artisans of Uttar Pradesh. The beauty of heritage-themed hotels is in the advancement they give to local businesses, artisans and vendors.
6.What was the initial investment in creating interiors? How is it paying off?
The initial investment in creating the interiors was substantial, reflecting our commitment to excellence and innovation. At Fairmont Jaipur, significant resources were dedicated to restoring and enhancing the historical elements, such as the 400-year-old palace door from Jodhpur. At Fairmont Jaipur, we pride ourselves in having a good balance between the old and the new. This investment has been paying off dividends in terms of positive guest reviews and word of mouth publicity. The unique and tastefully done luxurious interiors have positioned us as a leader in the luxury hospitality segment, attracting discerning travellers who value cultural authenticity and modern comfort. We believe in using environmental friendly products. The return on investment is evident in the enhanced guest satisfaction and loyalty, as well as the prestige and competitive advantage it brings to our brand.
7.What are the challenges faced? How do you overcome?
Challenges during the design and implementation phase included logistical issues, sourcing unique materials, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. At Fairmont Jaipur, we faced the task of blending historical authenticity with modern amenities without compromising either. However, through strategic planning, effective communication, and collaboration with partners and stakeholders, we successfully overcame these challenges. We worked closely with local artisans to source and create authentic decorative elements, navigated regulatory requirements with meticulous attention to detail, and employed innovative design solutions to integrate modern technologies seamlessly into the historic architecture. These efforts ensured that we could deliver an exceptional product that meets both our high standards and our guests’ expectations.
