The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has announced its 2024 Professional Awards, recognizing 39 winners for their innovation and exemplary achievements in landscape architecture. These winners, selected from 465 entries by jury panels that include professionals from the public and private sectors as well as academia, represent the pinnacle of excellence in the field. A comprehensive list of winners and their locations is provided below.
For the second consecutive year, the ASLA / International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Global Impact Award is given in the Analysis and Planning category. This award honours a project that excels in addressing climate impacts through transformative and scalable solutions while aligning with ASLAโs and IFLAโs climate action commitments. The 2024 award is presented to the Puente Hills Landfill Park Plan in Los Angeles, designed by Studio-MLA and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation. This project transforms the nationโs second-largest landfill into a public park, addressing extreme heat and drought as key climate challenges.
Additionally, the Professional Awards jury has selected the Xochimilco Ecological Park by Grupo de Diseno Urbano, S.C. for the Landmark Award. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, this 3,000-hectare cultural landscape in the Chinampas region features a sustainable pre-Hispanic agricultural system. The park includes a plant and flower market, a sports complex, wetlands hosting over 200 bird species, and attracts 2.5 million visitors annually.
โThese award-winning projects are transformative and inspiring,โ said ASLA President SuLin Kotowicz, FASLA, PLA. โThe project leaders clearly demonstrated technical excellence, elegant design and a deep connection to human experiences in nature. Congratulations to you all.โ
โThese winners showcase landscape architecture as the profession thatโs leading the way in helping communities thrive,โ said Torey Carter-Conneen, CEO, ASLA. โThese projects successfully address multiple challenges and have set a high bar for excellence. Equitable design, economic growth, capturing more carbon and increasing the health, safety and well-being of communities all at the same time is a stunning display of leadership and innovation.โ
