SiX, a society for generating public awareness about architecture, has been formed in the city.
The society will also focus on generating awareness about public spaces and their significance, about building in response to the existing conditions and work towards research and development of locally available materials and towards an improved aesthetic of the built-environment.
According to Ranel Kumar Das, a senior Guwahati-based architect, the society has been formed with the idea of carrying forward the aims and objectives of an architectural event, by the same name, held at the Assam State Museum in November last year.
According to Das, “SiX is a public initiative with architects from the Northeast as well as non-architects as members. The activities of this organisation will be oriented towards public participation to develop an improved understanding of architecture, design and aesthetics in Guwahati city, and also other parts of Northeast India. The society will be organising events at regular intervals and looks forward to active public participation.”
