Philips Lighting executes dynamic façade lighting project of CPWD at Central Secretariat Delhi

Philips Lighting, world’s leading lighting company, has executed the dynamic façade lighting project of the iconic Central Secretariat buildings on either side of the Raisina Hils leading to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, for Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The mesmerising lighting effect was switched on in the presence of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, yesterday evening.

Philips Lighting has used latest LED façade lighting technology to create a dynamically changing  lighting effect using a palette of 16 million colours in a synchronised way on both the buildings which houses the offices of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretariat, Ministries like Finance, Home, Defence, External Affairs, etc.

Speaking to media after the switch on ceremony, HS Puri, Minister of State for Urban Affairs with Independent Charge, said that the new façade lighting to the two iconic buildings is in tune with the Prime Minister’s mission New India by 2022.  He said that the project will be extended to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate by end of this year. The Minister said that these buildings are already on the global tourism map, and the new façade lighting will create ‘much stronger tourism appeal’ to the place.

Terming it as a ‘proud moment’ for Philips Lighting in India, Sumit Joshi, CEO – South Asia, said that the company has used latest and advanced  Philips CK façade lighting technology to light up these iconic structures.  He said that the lighting themes have been finalised and executed taking into consideration the character and the architectural value of each element of the building. “CPWD had a very progressive approach and wanted the best technology to go into it to bring out the beauty of the iconic buildings. The challenge was actually in lighting each part of the building in a different way,” he said.

Joshi said that the project will help creating an impression in the minds of decision makers and general public that how innovative  lighting can help in driving interest in the heritage structures by bringing out their iconic value to the forefront.
