Delegates from the design and construction industry witnessed presentations and panel discussions, based on the upcoming smart cities and developing infrastructure, at Global Smart Build Summit- 3rd edition presented by Falcon Bricks, co-sponsored by Flipspaces and powered by Summentor Pro Business Consultants on February 9, 2019, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

According to the organisers, the Summit was Asia’s first to bring key innovations for development of Tier-II cities & construction of Amravati, an upcoming smart city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The current potential to become innovative, move to smart construction & drive efficiency is immense in our nation; hence, this summit aims to transform the construction industry standards, productivity and provide high living standards to the residents.

Re-imaging Architecture, Construction & Design, the event commenced with a keynote presentation by R Rama Krishna Rao, Director-Planning, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority. He expressed his views on Amravati smart city development and the quantum of activity that is growing with it. Talking about the green masterplan of the city and multi-modal transport systems, that are to be adopted which includes Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Rao pointed out the suitable geographical location of the city considering the accessibility from neighbouring hubs. In conclusion, he expressed that Vijayawada is growing, construction being the first step followed by the transit systems, he also said, “To see a timely change towards the better, the industry needs to partner with the government”

A unique mixture of conference and B2B meetings allowed the delegates to generate exclusive ideas through the knowledge gained from the global leaders present at the convention. The B2B Sessions allowed the C-level leaders to connect with one another and with entrepreneurs, innovators and business model creators to analyse, understand & shortlist new & innovative products that can transform & add pace to their up-coming & on-going projects across the globe.

A panel discussion on the use of real estate technologies to understand and change with time and development took place with eminent personalities from various verticals of the industry. Moderated by Ashish Jauhari, Managing Principal, UrbanFrame, the session touched on the topic of how digital technology will change construction in the future. The panel comprised of Vijaya Sai Meka, Director, S.S Green Projects, Ankur Garg, Business Head, FOYR, Ashutosh Limaye, Director & Head, ANAROCK Consulting Services, Raaghav Chentur, Principal Architect, A + R Plus Architects and V Srinivasa Rao (VSR), Chairman & Managing Director, BT & BT Management Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. They spoke on key aspects like how policies or reforms bring about change in the construction sector, RERA digitisation and how this right to information has become the basis for gaining further knowledge. Elements of technology that can be harnessed were discussed while briefing the audience about waste, traffic health, sensors and remote records that are being used for analysis and planning. Few solutions for how energy is to be utilised were put forth like cutting down resources for saving future, adopting the use of solar energy and getting off the grid, energy conservation by installing efficient modes of air conditioning and improving the microclimate by introducing greenery and flowing water.

The discussion was followed by presentations pertaining to Green Built Environment, CII Hyderabad Project, Rating system for villages, Construction industry as major contributor for GDP, Green building improving productivity of occupant, Impact of GST on construction industry and as an example, Morphogenesis design studio gave a presentation on one of their projects, the Surat Diamond Bourse.

Post-event success meet was held in Bengaluru on February 22, 2019, where Jai Krishna Kishore, CEO, APEDB, met investors through Summentor Pro Business Consultants and deliberated on the initiatives to be taken for the future of the construction industry.
