
Furniture traders today observed a bandh to protest the increase in rates from 12% to 28%. The traders staged a dharna in Industrial Area, Phase 2, Chandigarh. Sunil Bansal, general secretary of the Chandigarh Furniture Association, said the hike was unjustified. The traders submitted a memorandum seeking a reduction in the rates. Bansal said all other associations like the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Laghu Udyog Bharti, Chandigarh Industrial Association and Chandigarh Industrial Youth Association had extended support to them. Kailash Jain of the Beopar Mandal also addressed the gathering. The Chandigarh Furniture Association has decided to hold a nationwide protest for three days from June 26. Satish Kumar, president of the furniture market, Sectors 53, 54, said the hike should be rolled back.
