Ex-principal of CCA to illuminate buildings of Capitol Complex

Former principal of the Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) PK Bhagat has got the project of designing lighting of buildings of the Le Corbusier’s Capitol Complex.

Bhagat will also start work on lighting design at Phase-3 of Rock Garden.

“Recently, I have submitted the lighting concept from India Gate to Vijay Chowk at New Delhi before the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which is a 2-km-long stretch of landscaped garden and water-channels,” he said.

“My future plans include creating awareness about the emerging issue of light pollution in Chandigarh as huge amount of waste light, light-trespass is being caused by improper street and facade lighting and the so-called beautification park lighting. The whole endeavour is to bring back the dark-sky to Chandigarh, phenomena which we owe to our future generations, as also to save electricity and electricity costs,” Bhagat said.

Bhagat is also a member of the US-based International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE).
