Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will replace fifty thousand conventional street lights with LED lights in Gurugram, Haryana under the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) by January 2018, the company said.
“EESL shall replace over 48,568 conventional street lights with LED lights, which would lead municipal corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to save approximately 13 million units of electricity annually,” EESL said in a statement on Wednesday.
The memorandum of understanding between MCG and EESL entails that the entire upfront capital cost of upgradation of conventional streetlight fixtures with LED ones will be borne by the MCG, while EESL will take care of the annual maintenance and warranty replacement on behalf of MCG for a period of ten years.
“The fact that SLNP is now being implemented by two municipalities in India’s largest urban agglomeration – Delhi NCR, reinforces our belief that India is taking rapid strides to be a world leader in energy efficiency,” EESL MD Saurabh Kumar said.
The implementation is in line with the Smart Cities initiative of the government of Haryana.
EESL will implement the centralised control and monitoring system (CCMS) as a replacement of existing conventional streetlight fixtures besides providing minimum guarantee of savings of 45 to55 percent to MCG.
Under the street light national programme, EESL has been tasked to carry out replacement of 1.34 crore conventional street lights across the country.
EESL, a joint venture of PSUs under the power ministry has spearheaded the government’s initiative to popularise LED bulbs in the country which has remarkably brought down the prices of these energy efficient lights.
